BJP Celebrates Article 370 Abrogation In J&K. Opposition Protests

On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders of the valley were put under house arrest on Saturday.

It is being told that Mufti’s Jammu-Kashmir People’s Democratic Party had sought permission to hold the seminar today but the administration refused to give permission.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that I have been put under house arrest today along with other senior PDP leaders. Many people from my party have been illegally detained in police stations.

Mehbooba Mufti wrote in the tweet that on one hand, huge hoardings have been put up all over Srinagar calling upon Kashmiris to celebrate the illegal abrogation of Article 370. While brute force is being used to strangle the real spirit of the people. It is hoped that the Hon’ble Supreme Court will take cognizance of these developments at a time when the hearing on Article 370 is taking place.

On Friday, Mufti claimed that her party leaders were being detained ahead of the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

Posting the video, Mehbooba said in a tweet that on the eve of August 5, why is the Jammu and Kashmir police detaining PDP leaders? In this video Arif Lagroo is taken away by the police.

For the programme, the PDP is said to have sought permission to hold a seminar or discussion with the general public on the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A on Saturday.

The PDP had earlier said it has invited like-minded parties from Kashmir for the event to be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Park near the PDP headquarters here.

A PDP spokesperson said that our representative was informed on August 4, 2023 around 5 pm that the permission sought has been rejected without assigning any reason.

He said permission was denied to the PDP, but permission was granted to the BJP to organize an event at Jawahar Nagar Park and later to organize a rally from Nehru Park to SKICC to celebrate the abrogation of the two articles. The request has been granted.

Let us tell you that on August 5, 2019, the Central Government had abrogated Article 370.

Through this, Jammu and Kashmir got the status of a special state. After the removal of Article 370, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were divided into Union Territories.

Meanwhile the BJP celebrated the fourth anniversary on Saturday by holding a public meeting in Srinagar and highlighting the changes in Jammu and Kashmir.

While its rivals staged protests, with the Congress calling it a ”black day”.

During a meeting, BJP leaders highlighted the changes in Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre’s 2019 decision, with Jasrotia saying there used to be shutdowns for the most part of the year in the Kashmir Valley, but now, there are no strikes. In Jammu, the Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the PDP staged separate protests to mark the day.

Congress members led by the party’s J-K chief, Vikar Rasool Wani, held a peaceful demonstration outside the party’s headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk, demanding restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, protection of land rights and 100 per cent reservation for locals in jobs.
