‘Cash For Query’ Row: Ethics Panel Submits Reports On Charges Against Mahua Moitra To LS Speaker

TMC MP Mahua Moitra is in danger of becoming MP in the case of taking bribe and asking questions in Parliament (Cash For Query). The Parliament Ethics Committee has sent the investigation report in this matter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday.

The committee has considered Mahua Moitra’s crime as serious. According to sources, the committee in its report has recommended cancellation of Mahua Moitra’s Lok Sabha membership. This report against Moitra was approved by the committee in Thursday’s meeting. 6 MPs voted in support of this report and 4 against it.

According to the composition of the Ethics Committee, NDA has the majority. There are a total of 15 members in the committee including the chairman. BJP has 7 members in the committee. Preneet Kaur (Congress), Hemant Godse (Shiv Sena), Sumedhanand (BJP), Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Rajdeep Roy (BJP) and Vinod Kumar Sonkar (BJP and Chairman) voted in favor of the investigation report in the Mahua Moitra bribery case. . While BSP MP Danish Ali, PR Natarajan (CPM), Vaithilingam (Congress), Girdhari Yadav (JDU) opposed it.

Ethics Committee Chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar said after approving the report, “The Ethics Committee had prepared a report after investigation regarding the allegation against Mahua Moitra. This is the single agenda of today’s meeting. The report was presented in this meeting and it was adopted. The facts and findings have been found by the committee after investigation. Now whatever further action has to be taken in this matter, it will be taken by the Lok Sabha Speaker only.”

The Ethics Committee said that there should be a legal, intensive, institutional and time-bound investigation into this entire matter. It has also been recommended to investigate the cash transactions of Mahua Moitra with businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

The Ethics Committee recommended strict punishment for Mahua and
made national security the most important basis in its recommendation.

In its recommendation, the committee has said that Mahua Moitra has shared the log-in details of her parliamentary account with unauthorized persons, which impacts national security. The committee has considered this a serious crime and hence has recommended the dismissal of Mahua Moitra’s membership of the Lok Sabha.

On the allegations of sharing log-in ID and password, the Ethics Committee has said that Mahua should be given strict punishment for this serious crime.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on October 15. In this he had alleged that Mahua had taken money and gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in Parliament. Dubey had made these allegations on the basis of the letter written by Mahua’s ex-partner and lawyer Jai Anant Dehdrai. This matter was sent to the Ethics Committee by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had alleged that Mahua Moitra had shared the log-in ID and password of the parliamentary account with businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Hiranandani posted the questions on behalf of the TMC MP.

Earlier, Mahua had termed these allegations as false. Later, after Hiranandani’s confession, finally Mahua also admitted that she had shared the log-in password of her account with Hiranandani. She has described Darshan Hiranandani as his old friend. However, Moitra has rejected the allegations of asking questions after taking money.

Meanwhile, Mahua Moitra’s ex-partner and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai has filed a new complaint against her. Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehdrai on Tuesday filed a complaint at the Hauz Khas police station accusing Mahua Moitra of trespassing, i.e. forcibly entering her house and intimidating the staff. Earlier, Dehdraai had expressed the threat to his life to the Delhi Police Commissioner.
