Union minister for social justice and empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehloth on Friday announced an allocation of Rs 20 crore for the construction of a new building for the Composite Regional Center (CRC) in Tripura. Gehlot said the fund would be allocated within two months while addressing the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir organised at the Rabindra Bhavan to provide living devices to senior citizens. “The union government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made efforts to empower the divyangs. Similarly, the central government is committed to the safety and security of senior citizens,” Gehlot said. He referenced a survey conducted in February and March last year to say that a total of 7,729 senior citizens were identified provided with different materials. The expenditure was estimated at Rs 1.52 crore. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, however, the camp could not be organized. “Now, the scheme has been implemented in West and Khowai Tripura districts. And at the request of the Tripura Chief Minister, the scheme will now be implemented in the remaining six districts. The senior citizens in all districts of Tripura will get benefits under the scheme,” Gehlot added. The Union Minister promised to allocate funds for the construction of a new building for the Composite Regional Center in Tripura. “I had visited Tripura last year and announced the CRC. The Tripura government has allotted 6 acres of land for the construction of a new building for the centre. Rs 20 crore will be allocated to Tripura for the construction of new buildings within next 2 months,” Gehlot said.
