On Wednesday morning, soldiers killed two female Naxalites in an encounter in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.
The soldiers have returned to the district headquarters after recovering the bodies and weapons of both the Naxalites.
One of them has been identified as ACM (Area Committee Member) Kumari Lakhe and the other as Mangali Padami. A reward of Rs 5 lakh was declared on ACM, while Mangli was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh. The matter is of Aranpur police station area.
According to the information, the police had received information that a large number of Naxalites were present in the forest of Kakadi, Nahari, Hidma villages of the district.
The soldiers were taken out on operation on Tuesday night. When the team reached the forest of these villages on Wednesday morning, the Naxalites already sitting in ambush there started firing on them.
The soldiers also took charge and gave a befitting reply to the Naxalites’ bullets. There was heavy firing from both sides for about half an hour.
However, seeing the police being overwhelmed, the Naxalites escaped taking the support of the dense forest. During the search, bodies of two female Naxalites have been recovered. Explosive items including one INSAS and 12 bore weapon were also found.
Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai said that both these women Naxalites were involved in many major incidents. She was also working with other big leaders including Chaitu, Jayalal, Jagdish, Mangli.
Also, a huge quantity of Naxalite documents have been found from the incident site. Which is being investigated.
They used to shoot a 12 bore rifle. SP said that many more Naxalites have been injured in this encounter. The injured were taken away by their companions.
Police is running Operation Monsoon against Naxalites in Bastar. Under this Operation Monsoon, soldiers were taken out on searching in the interior areas of Dantewada district. In which the soldiers achieved success by killing two Naxalites.
