The Tripura Government has ordered to defer the polls for all 20 civic bodies as tenure for most of the bodies are likely to end by December 21. The notification issued by Kiran Gitte, Secretary Urban Development, informed that the polls of the Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats of the state have been deferred till February 27. He also ordered the appointment of the administrators to the Urban local bodies with effects from the date of dissolution of these bodies. The west district magistrate would take charge as the Administrator of the Agartala Municipal Corporation while the SDM would look after their local bodies in the state. Tripura has a total of 20 urban local bodies comprising 13 municipal councils, six Nagar Panchayats and one Municipal Corporation. The order copy okso cited that the the state election commission had deferred the general elections of the Municipalities of the state of Tripura till February 27 next year. Reacting to the deferment of the Urban local bodies polls CPIM said the polls are being announced in almost all the States but in case of Tripura the government is not taking any positive steps. The ruling BJP has lost their roots and are afraid to undergo polls immediately” said leader Pabitra Kar. Meanwhile PCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas also threatened to move in the High Court if the polls are not announced immediately.
