The first discussion meeting on coconut cultivation in North Eastern region was held in Agartala. The opening ceremony of this discussion meeting was organized at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in the capital Agartala on Friday (March 17).
Ratan Lal Nath, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Tripura Government, MLA Mylafru Mog, Officer of Coconut Development Board of Government of India were present there.
This discussion meeting was organized by the Coconut Development Board of the Government of India.
More than 1000 farmers from different parts of the state participated in this one-day discussion meeting.
Speaking at the program, minister Nath said that the total number of farmers in the state is 4 lakh 72 thousand. The state government is working to improve the financial condition of all farmers. Therefore, the production of agricultural products in the state is increasing day by day. New agricultural land in the state is being brought under irrigation. 6000 rupees per annum is being given financial assistance to the farmers of the state under the Krishak Samman Nidhi scheme.
He also said that a plan has been taken to increase the amount of this assistance from two thousand rupees to eight thousand rupees. New plans have been taken so that farmers are ahead in coconut cultivation as well. As a result, the production of coconut in the state will increase further in the coming days, said the minister.
After the inauguration ceremony, experts from Tripura state and different parts of the country discussed various commercial benefits of coconut cultivation, what kind of products can be made from coconut and the tree. Discussed the scientific method of coconut cultivation. The experts also answered various questions of the farmers.
Apart from raw coconut, various coconut products such as oil, soap, powdered milk, cosmetic cream, canned water, etc. An exhibition of housewares, home decorations, and other parts of the coconut tree was organized.
