Covid: Centre Holds High-Level Meeting. Asks States To Ramp Up Genome Sequencing

Dr. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has chaired a high-level meeting to review the current situation and preparedness of Covid-19. 

In this meeting the Health Secretary briefed about the COVID-19 global situation including some new variants of SARS-CoV-2 virus like BA.2.86 (Pirola) and EG.5 (Aris) reported globally went.

The health secretary said that the meeting that according to WHO, while the corona variant EG.5 (Aris) has been reported in more than 50 countries, the variant BA.2.86 (Pirola) is in four countries. 

It was emphasized in the meeting that in the last 7 days, a total of 2,96,219 new cases of Covid-19 were reported globally, while India has registered 223 cases. 

The daily average of Covid cases remains below 50. Whereas the weekly test positivity rate is less than 0.2 percent.

In a high-level meeting with the officials, Principal Secretary Dr. PK Mishra has given instructions for genome sequencing along with strict monitoring of the new variant of Corona. 

He also highlighted that the country’s Covid situation remains stable and the public health system is prepared, but states need to keep a watch on cases of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). Is.

Recently, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned. He said that Covid-19 is no longer a health emergency for the world, but it still remains a ‘global health threat’. A new variant of the corona virus is already under investigation.
