Cyclone ‘Tej’: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Tripura

Rain has become a major hindrance during the festive season. Light drizzle is occurring in many states. 

 India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Tripura on October 24. IMD has issued an orange alert regarding this.

At the same time, cyclone ‘Tej’ is likely to cross the Yemen coast near Al Gaida by October 24 (Tuesday). 

Cyclone Tej, which is forming in the south-west of the Arabian Sea, is very likely to move towards the north-west. 

Meanwhile, senior scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar, Uma Shankar Das, while talking to news agency ANI, said that ‘Sunday’s deep depression, which has moved in the north-east direction at a speed of 13 km/hr, will turn into an extremely cyclonic storm in the next 6 hours.

The sea condition will become very bad by this evening and from tomorrow i.e. Tuesday the sea condition will worsen further. 

IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into West Central Bay of Bengal till October 25 and North Bay of Bengal till October 26. 

Uma Shankar Das further said that this is the time of paddy harvesting and hence people have been advised to harvest and store the paddy quickly and safely.

According to the Meteorological Department, it is likely to move north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts during the next three days. 

Earlier, IMD warned that extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Tej’ has arrived over the Arabian Sea. Due to this, a depression has formed over the Bay of Bengal. 

Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Tej over West Central and adjoining South West Arabia has intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.
