Death Of Minister NC: Tripura Govt Announces 1 Day Public Holiday, 3 Days Mourn

Tripura cabinet member and ruling coalition partner IPFT president Narendra Chandra Debbarma has passed away on Sunday. 

According to official records, he was 73 at the time of his death. But, his family claims, he died at the age of 80. 

He was admitted to GBP Hospital on December 30 due to brain haemorrhage. He died at around 3:30 pm on Friday. 

The Chief Minister of Tripura has announced that on Sunday will be a public holiday and three days of mourning will be observed for his death.

 Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said that Tripura has suffered an irreparable loss due to his death. His last rites will be performed on Monday at his ancestral home in Teliamura sub-division .

Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya expressed deep grief over the demise of Revenue Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma. 

In a condolence message, Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya said, ‘I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the sudden demise of Tripura Government Revenue Minister and ITFT President Narendra Chandra Debbarma. Revenue Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma was a focal point and experienced leader of the people of Tripura despite his poor health.”

The governor said his death marks the end of an era that cannot be fulfilled. May God fulfill the dreams of his departed soul and grant him a place at his feet.’ 

The Governor prayed to God to grant patience and strength to the bereaved family of the Revenue Minister in this difficult time.

On this day, the Chief Minister visited the residence of his senior colleague in the state cabinet late Narendra Chandra Debbarma and paid his last respects. 

The Chief Minister said, I also sympathize with the bereaved family and loved ones in the pain of his loss. May God bless his departed soul.

Former Chief Minister of Tripura and MP Biplab Kumar Deb said, the demise of senior cabinet member, skilled politician Narendra Chandra Debbarma, is the end of a colorful chapter. He has left an impression of foresight and prudence through well thought out opinions in various strong decisions of the State Cabinet. He was one of the brightest symbols of devotion to public welfare. I visited his residence and paid my respects and expressed my condolences to the bereaved family. May the Almighty give them the strength to overcome this difficult time.

Besides, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, Tipra Motha Chairman and MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, other members of the Tripura Cabinet, all members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly expressed grief over the death of Narendra Chandra Debbarma.

His body will be taken to the secretariat first thing tomorrow. Then he will be honored in the assembly. From there his body will be taken to his ancestral home Maharani and his last rites will be performed there.
