Death Toll Rises To 820 In Morocco Earthquake. Thousand Injured

An early morning earthquake has caused massive devastation in the African country Morocco. 

Many buildings collapsed due to the earthquake here, in which 820 people died so far. At the same time, 629 people have been injured. 

The intensity of the earthquake is being told as 6.8. Rescue operation has been started. The death toll may increase further. 

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 70 kilometers away from Marrakesh city of Morocco. 

The earthquake was so strong that its impact was also felt in the capital Rabat, about 350 kilometers from Marrakesh.  

Moroccan Ministry spokesman Rashid Al Khalfi said that the intensity of the earthquake was up to 7 in some places. Its center was in Ighil of Al-Hawz province.

According to the Indian time, the earthquake occurred at 3: 41am in the morning. 

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), this is the most powerful earthquake in North Africa in 120 years. 

USGS said that since 1900, there has not been any M6 level or bigger earthquake in the 500 km area of ​​this area. Only 9 earthquakes of M-5 level have been recorded here. 

Brahim Himmi, a city resident of Marrakesh, told the agency that many old buildings had collapsed due to the earthquake and that he saw ambulance after ambulance leaving the old city. 

He said that people are scared and have come out of their homes due to the fear of another earthquake. 

Pathetic photos and videos related to the earthquake are being shared on social media.

After the earthquake in Marrakesh city of Morocco, high-rise buildings were turned into piles of debris. 

Most of the cases of house collapse have occurred in the old city of Marrakesh. People have started the work of removing debris along with the administration.

 Big disasters are waiting to happen. Some photos of the famous Red Wall in this city have been shared on social media, in which huge cracks are visible in one part and some parts have fallen and debris is lying on the road.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the earthquake in Morocco. 

He said, ‘Extremely saddened by the loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in Morocco. At this sad time, my thoughts are with the people of Morocco who have lost their loved ones. India is ready to provide all possible assistance to Morocco in this difficult time.

Such a devastating earthquake was recently felt in Turkey, in which more than 45 thousand people died. Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Turkey on the morning of 6 February 2023. The first shock of the earthquake came at 4.17 in the morning. Its intensity on the Richter scale was 7.8 magnitude. 

The epicenter of the earthquake was Gaziantep in southern Turkey .

Before people could recover from this, after some time there was another earthquake, its intensity on the Richter scale was 6.4 magnitude. 

This series of earthquakes did not stop here. After this there was another shock of 6.5 magnitude. These earthquakes caused devastation in 11 provinces including Malatya, Sanliurfa, Osmaniye and Diyarbakir.

 Another fourth shock of the earthquake occurred at 4 pm.  This shock had caused the most devastation.
