According to a report published in the Times of India, India’s star gymnast Dipa Karmakar has been dropped from the Asian Games athletes’ squad.
Karmakar, who shot into limelight after finishing fourth at the Rio Olympics, has reportedly not been named in the final list of athletes for the upcoming Asian Games starting on September 23.
According to the TOI report, this list has been sent to the Sports Ministry for final approval and it is likely to be approved by Tuesday, August 8.
It is reported from sources that Karmakar was not considered available for the final selection because he has been away from gymnastics since 2019 due to injuries and doping suspension.
However, she stood first in the gymnastic women’s artistic gymnastics event at the July 11-12 trials.
The TOI report states that Dipa Karmakar has requested the Sports Authority of India to relax the eligibility criteria for her.
