A local court in Tripura convicted a 24-year-old man of sexually assaulting his mother and later sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Additional Session Judge of Sepahijala district, Bishalgarh, booked him under Indian Penal Code section 15 for this heinous crime. A fine of Rs 10,000 is also imposed on the convict found guilty under Section 376.
Speaking on the issue, Additional Public Prosecutor Gautam Giri said, “The incident happened on May 02, 2023″
The convict allegedly committed the crime in the absence of other family members.
On May 5, the victim lodged a written complaint at Takarajala police station and demanded action against her son.
The convict, who was detained by the police, remained in jail custody during the entire court proceedings.
“Statements of at least 20 witnesses were examined in the case, including the convict’s father, sisters and neighbours. Finally, the court pronounced the verdict on Friday,” Giri told media persons.
Sources said the convict is a drug addict. Police said he had raped his mother in the absence of his father after returning home early in the morning from a local festival.
After breakfast, he consumed liquor and threatened to throttle his mother if she did not have intercourse with him.
