The smuggling trade is in full swing at the main railway station of Tripura, the Agartala railway.
This includes the persons involved in the railway parcels section . There have been complaints for a long time. It is reported that they are directly smuggling goods by taking contracts for transportation of goods in various long-distance and short-distance express trains.
It is reported that their main activity is smuggling of various types of drugs, including the banned cough syrup Escof, Phensedyl, which is used as an extra alcoholic drug.
Eventually a joint operation was launched against them by the Railways’ own security force RPF and the Government Railway Police GRP.
In this late night raid on Thursday , three accused connected with the parcel were arrested. 788 bottles of banned syrup Escof were recovered.
They were brought from Sealdah to Agartala by Kanchenjunga Express to be smuggled to Bangladesh through Sonamura.
Gautam Das (44), Babul Debnath (50) and Tapan Das are among the accused involved in the incident.
They belongs from capital Agartala and adjoining parts of Dukli, Brajnagar and Bhattapukur.
Gautam Das booked them in the name of Babul Debnath with BDN . Later Babul Debnath along with his another companion Tapan Das came to the station to collect those. Finally all three were arrested.
