A meeting of BSF and BGB (belongs from India and Bangladesh respectively) was held on Thursday on the need to build trust between the local people on both side of the border and to enhance understanding between the two border forces.
The commander-level conference of the eastern area of the two border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh concluded on Thursday in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
The conference began on September 11. A joint memorandum of understanding was signed between the regional levels of the two forces during the conference itself.
The six-member Indian delegation to the conference was led by Chief Inspector General Pradip Kumar, IPS, BSF Meghalaya Frontier.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Additional Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) Southeast Region, Regional Commander Mohammad Shajedur Rahman.
According to a statement from the BSF, various issues related to border protection were discussed in this conference. Both sides emphasized on enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.
In this conference, there was a detailed discussion on taking appropriate measures against terrorist activities, cross-border crime, drug smuggling and violation of border rules by exploiting the borders of the two countries.
Besides, implementation of infrastructure/developmental works delayed due to disputes and increasing mutual cooperation in border management were discussed.
The meeting between the two forces also positively discussed the need to build trust between the local people on both sides of the border and to increase understanding between the two border guarding forces.
The representatives of both sides discussed ways to resolve the issues raised at various times.
Both sides agreed to ensure an environment of peace and stability in the international border area. Emphasis is placed on strengthening bonds of friendship, mutual trust.
The delegations of the two countries also acknowledged in the conference that the relationship between the two border forces of India and Bangladesh is increasing to a new level.
It is said that friendly relations are gradually reaching new heights by organizing this regional level conference between the two forces after about 6 months.
BSF IG Pradip Kumar said that through this conference meaningful discussions were held between the forces of the two countries and through which it was possible to successfully reach an agreement in terms of mutual relations and understanding.
Shajedur Rahman, Regional General Director of BGB, said that BGB is working for the protection of peace on the border and close relations between the two forces.
Both sides acknowledged that this commander-level conference has shown a positive path in resolving the border disputes and conflicts on both sides, as well as strengthening the bond of mutual trust and cooperation.
