Strong earthquake tremors have been felt at 72 km north-east of Dharmanagar, under North Tripura District on Saturday.

The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.4 on the Richter scale.

At present there is no news of loss of life or property.

National Seismology Center has given this information. There is an atmosphere of fear among the people after the earthquake.

Let us tell you that before this, earthquake tremors were felt in Tripura on 24th July also. The intensity at that time was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale.

Khowai district of Tripura was its centre. However, there was no loss of life or property during on that time.

Actually, there are many plates within the earth which get displaced from time to time. This theory is called plate tectonics in English.

According to this theory, the upper layer of the Earth is about 80 to 100 kilometers thick, which is called the lithosphere.

In this part of the Earth, there are plates broken into many pieces which keep floating. Normally these plates move at a speed of 10-40 mm per year. However, the speed of some of them is also 160 mm per year.

Whenever these plates move, they collide with each other. Waves are created only when these plates collide.

Not only this, after these plates collide with each other, they start climbing on top of each other, resulting in earthquakes.
