Embezzlement Of Govt Fund: Six Employees Of Unakoti SP Office Arrested

Six employees of the Police Superintendent Office, Unakoti District of Tripura including a Police constable are arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in embezzling funds worth over Rs 20 lakh.

The Kailashahar District Court sent the accused persons to jail remand and directed the Police to re- produce them in the Court on September 14.

Confirming the incident, SP of the Unakoti District Kanta Jahangir said, all the arrested persons are residents of Kailashahar.

As per the preliminary information, the accused six persons-Sujan Sen, Dipankar Sinha, Purnendu Ghosh, Alkama Ali, Biswanath Sinha and Jahir Uddin – started embezzling government money.

Among the six arrested persons, Jahir is the only Police constable while others are administration staff deputed at the Unakoti SP Office.

According to the report the accused persons misappropriated salaries and allowances of Police department staff in Unakoti totalling Rs 20 lakh 60 thousand.

This embezzlement started almost a year ago and only recently came to the fore during a Treasury audit on September 2.

The SP suspended the six accused even after the accused immediately returned the money. Later, the Police arrested them.
