The much-desired Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway is awaiting for inauguration as the construction work is over.
Meanwhile an empty container train will run from Gangasagar railway station in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura to Shivnagar adjacent to the Indian border tomorrow, Thursday (September 14) between morning and noon.
In the past, track cars have been run several times on the Bangladesh section of the Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway.
The construction of the 12.24 km Akhaura-Agartala railway from Gangasagar in Akhaura to Nishchintpur in Agartala started in July 2018. It is taking more than five years to complete the one and a half year project due to various reason including the corona pandemic.
Although the railway line is completed, finishing work on immigration, customs buildings and platforms is still going on.
Director of Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge project (Bangladesh part) Abu Zafar Mia said that 95 percent of the project has already been completed. A test train will be run in our section tomorrow between morning and noon.
After the inauguration, goods trains will be run first and then passenger trains will also run on this route.
