Suman Debnath, president of Yuba Morcha, South Tripura District has finally been arrested in a case filed on charges of extortion.
Another accused Subhrajit Patari is absconding. Suman Debnath is said to have fled after getting the news of his arrest.
A non-bailable case was filed against both of them in Shantirbazar police station a week ago on charges of extortion.
Until now, due to political pressure, the police did not have the courage to arrest them.
Finally, the police arrested them on Friday night under pressure.
Suman to be handed over to the court on Saturday . Police have launched an operation to nab the other absconding accused, Subhrajit.
“Both of them were booked under sections 341 (wrongfully restrain), 384 (commits extortion), 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC,” Anupam Das, OIC, Santirbazar PS, said.
