Farming Sector Suffered A Loss Worth Over Rs 2 Cr In Post Poll Violence: AIKS Tripura

“The rural economy of the State has suffered a major blow after the announcement of the Assembly results -the farmers are the worst victims of post-poll violence in Tripura” secretary of the State unit of the All India Krishak Sabha (AIKS) Pabitra Kar said while addressing a press conference in Agartala on Sunday.

“The farmers suffered huge losses
as miscreants burnt down rubber plantations, destroyed vegetable crop fields and burnt alive their cattle, and goats”, Kar pointed out.

According to Kar, the farming sector, alone, suffered a loss worth over Rs 2 crore in the post-poll violence.

“Nothing can compensate for such a big loss and the State economy is bound to slow down. In a state like Tripura, which is solely dependent on agriculture, farmers’ condition is deteriorating as hooliganism continue in the State” Kar claimed.

He added that miscreants had damaged or destroyed around 250 rubber plantations across the State.

Predicting a black future for the farmers which will spill over and affect the common people, Kar said that the farming sector is already riddled with problems like lack of irrigation facilities and high cost of fertilizers etc.

“In view of the present situation, AIKS will submit a deputation to Chief Secretary on April 10 next highlighting the details of losses incurred by the farming communities. Besides, the deputation submission programme will be organized in every district where AlKS district units will submit deputation on the same issues to the respective DMs” Pabitra Kar informed the media.
