Govt To Spend Rs 1600 Cr For Tourism Development: Tripura Minister

“The renovation work of Tripura Sundari Temple Udaipur is almost 70 percent . Therefore, there is a possibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah will come to inaugurate the Diwali festival at Matabari this year” 

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this in a press conference at the Civil Secretary on Tuesday. 

He also hoped that more than Rs 1600 crore would be spent on transforming the tourism industry in Tripura.

Speaking in the Press Conference he also said that:

“An attempt has been made to put the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, one of the tourist centers of Tripura, on the world tourism map through a multi-faceted plan under the Prasad project. Government of India has sanctioned Rs 37 Cr 89 lakh to develop Mata Tripura Sundari Mandir as a spiritual tourism center and make it more attractive to domestic and foreign tourists. But so far the state has received Rs 21 crore 18 lakh”.

On this day, he said, BJP had promised to spend Rs 1000 crore in the tourism sector of Tripura in its Sankalp Patra . Hence the Tourism Department of Tripura has initiated a multi-pronged program to revamp the tourism industry with modern facilities and infrastructure.

Referring to the progress in the field of tourism in Tripura, he said, “The work of 11 tourist centers under ‘Swadesh Darshan-1’ Phase-I is close to completion. These include – Agartala, Sipahijla, Melaghar, Udaipur, Amarpur, Mandirghat, Tirthamukh, Narkelkunj, Dumbur, Ambasa, Baramura etc. He said that the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 82 crore 84 lakh 74 thousand in the first phase. Of this, Rs 73 crore 74 lakh 57 thousand has been spent so far. Of that, about 97 percent is complete in terms of work progress.

Also, he added, the specific list has been prepared to make the tourist places of Tripura more attractive. Among them, Surma Chera Waterfall in Dhalai District, Martyr Dhananjay Memorial Garden in Jolaibari and Chottakhala India-Bangladesh Friendship Garden in Bilonia in South Tripura District, Niramhal in Melaghar, Sonamura Buddhist Stupa in Sipahijla District, and Jampui hill in North Tripura District Unakoti under Unakoti district.

Minister Sushant Chowdhury expressed hope that more than Rs 1600 crore will be spent for the transformation of the tourism industry in Tripura.
