Gujarat HC Judge Recuses Herself From Hearing Rahul Gandhi’s Appeal

Rahl Gandii has appealed in the Gujarat High Court to stay the sentence in the incolunf criminal defamation Case defamati involving Modi surname . 

Meanwhile, Gujarat High Court Justice Geeta Gopi has recused herself from hearing Rahul’s appeal.

Earlier, the Surat court had rejected Rahul Gandhi’s plea to stay the sentence.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to 2 years in the defamation case by the Surat court. 

However, immediately after the sentence, Rahul Gandhi got bail. The court had suspended his sentence for 30 days, so that Rahul Gandhi could appeal in higher courts.

After this, Lok Sabha membership of Rahul Gandhi was canceled on 24 March. 

On March 27, the Lok Sabha Housing Committee had sent a notice to Rahul to vacate the bungalow. 

The committee had asked him to vacate the government residence at 12 Tughlaq Road by 22 April. Rahul has vacated the bungalow and shifted to mother Sonia Gandhi’s residence.

After this, Rahul Gandhi moved the Surat Session Court on April 3, challenging the order of his sentence. 

He also filed an application to stay his sentence.

Rahul Gandhi was granted bail (pending the disposal of his appeal) by the court on 3 April, but his application to stay his conviction was rejected on 20 April. 

The court had also said in its order that Rahul Gandhi, being a member of parliament and the president of the second largest political party, should have been more careful about his words, which affected the minds of the people. Had a big impact.

 Surat’s sessions court refused to stay Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the defamation case.

 The court said- ‘He should have been more careful in choosing words’. 

After this, Rahul Gandhi has moved the Gujarat High Court.
