Illegal Organizations: MHA Constitutes Tribunal For NLFT, ATTF

The Central Government has taken a major step to investigate into declaring National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) as illegal organizations.

The Home Ministry has constituted a tribunal under the UAPA Act, comprising Guwahati High Court judge Justice Manish, to probe the validity of the NLFT and ATTF.

The central government had in the first week of this month declared all factions and wings of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) outlawed.

Along with this, this association was banned for 5 years. Now the Home Ministry has constituted a tribunal to investigate the validity of these organizations.

The Home Ministry said in a statement after this decision, “In exercise of the powers given under the UAPA, the Central Government has constituted the ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal’, which includes Guwahati High Court judge Justice Manish to Investigate the fact whether there are sufficient reasons to declare the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) as unlawful associations.”

Earlier, the Home Ministry had banned these organizations saying that these groups have also been involved in the killing of civilians, police and security forces personnel.

Apart from this, the members of the group have extorted money from commercial establishments and businesses. NLFT and ATTF men are setting up their camps in the neighboring countries for the purpose of training, procurement of arms and ammunition. Therefore all such groups have been considered illegal. The Home Ministry said in its statement that the ban on National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) will be effective for five years from October 4.
