Incidents Of Attack: One-Hour Sit-In Strike Of CPIM, Today

All sixteen MLAs of the CPI (M) , the prime and only opposition in the state, will take part in a one-hour sit-in strike today ie Wednesday in a spot in Agartala town to protest the unprovoked attack on partymen and leaders across the state by the workers and supporters of ruling BJP. They will also protest the BJP’s attack on the residence of party’s Rajya Sabha MP Jharna Das Baidya on last Sunday.
Announcing this the former chief minister and CPI (M) politburo member Manik Sarkar told media persons that a delegation of the left front had met in deputation with the governor R,K.Baish yesterday and apprised him of the situation in the state. “We have informed the governor in detail of what has been happening in the state over the past three years with particular reference to the long series of attacks on party leaders and workers by the miscreants of BJP in an unprovoked manner , seeking his intervention in the affairs of the state on the basis of his constitutional authority; but we will not relent merely by meeting the governor in deputation” said Manik, adding that tomorrow’s sit-in strike will be merely a symbolic affair and a larger movement will be launched across the state to protest the misrule and anarchy unleashed by the BJP government and party. He also said that an appeal had been made to the governor to take steps from his constitutional position to stop depredations of the unruly BJP cadres.
