Independent Journalist Saikat Talapatra In Seven Days Police Remand

In a case filed by Tripura Commission For women chairperson Jharna Debbarman against a social media editor, Independent Journalist Saikat Talapatra, West Tripura District and Sessions Judge Subhashis Sharma Roy on Monday ordered seven-day police remand of the accused.

In the said case, the court initially ordered the accused to be remanded in jail till October 9.

At the same time, the investigating officer was directed to submit the case diary of the case to the court on October 9.

Similarly, when the accused was produced before the court on Monday, the District and Sessions Judge granted a seven-day police remand after hearing the case diary of the case and the statements of both sides.

It is known that the police presented several evidences against the accused in the court.

On Monday, the police requested the court to remand the accused for fourteen days. The court granted a seven-day remand.

He was arrested against a non-bailable warrant. He was charged under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and the Arms Act by the West Agartala police in 2020.

It may be noted that the state government has appointed Samrat Kar Bhowmick, the senior advocate of the state, as a special public prosecutor in the Saikat Talapatra case.
