journalist Shantanu Bhowmik remembered on his 6th Martyr’s Day on Wednesday at Chhatra Yuba Bhavan, Headquarters of DYFI Tripura State Committee, Agartala.
CPIM leader Manik Dey, CPIM West Tripura District Committee Secretary Ratan Das, CPIM Sadar District Committee Secretary Subhashis Ganguly, DYFI President Nabarun Deb and others were present there.
Everyone paid their respects by offering wreaths to Shantanu’s portrait. Former minister and left leader Manik Dey said Shantanu was killed by communal forces in 2017. After Shantanu’s murder, there was a demand to arrest the culprits and punish them. Accordingly, the then Left Front government formed the SIT with a special team. Several people were subsequently arrested.
“But after the BJP-led government was formed in the state, the entire matter was handed over to the CBI. But till now the investigation process has not progressed” Dey said.
He claimed that some political conspiracy is working behind it. There are some political parties who raise certain demands and slogans, by which there is division among the people of the caste. And Shantanu is murdered by these communally minded miscreants. The culprits are the ruling BJP and its alliance partner , the IPFT.
Manik Dey claimed journalist Santanu was killed in their conspiracy.
“Also, when the BJP government was formed, it was promised that the culprits behind Shantanu’s murder would be punished. That promise has not yet been fulfilled. The people of the state want the culprits to be arrested and punished” he added.
