The Hon’ble High Court has issued notice of contempt of court against the Secretary of Industries Government of Tripura, the Director of Industries and the Managing Director of Jute mill for not implementing the judgment of the High Court.
The Hon’ble High Court on September 4, 2018 ordered a batch of writ petitions that jute mill workers are entitled to revision of pay scale and other allowances from January 1, 1996.
Later, the state government and jute mills filed a batch of writ appeals against the judgment of the single judge.
The Division Bench of the High Court on September 21, 2022 dismissed the writ appeals and directed the payment of arrears of wages to the labor-employees of Jutmills within six months at the rate fixed from January 1, 1996.
But the state government and the jute mill authorities have not given the benefits of the High Court judgment to the workers and employees within the stipulated six months.
Jute mill employees filed a case against the state government and jute mill officials alleging contempt of the Tripura High Court verdict.
A division bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Arindam Lodh issued notices against the accused officials in the contempt of court case.
Senior Advocate Purushottam Roy Barman, Advocates Samarjit Bhattacharya, Kaushik Nath and Aradhita Debbarma are arguing the case on behalf of the petitioners.
