In protest against the shot dead of an activist Srikanta Das during heavy clashes between security personnel and protesters, Joint Movement Committee to organize a rally with the deceased body today i.e Sunday. The Joint Movement Committee activist was died during the clash with the police yesterday at Panisagar. Meanwhile heavy security deployed in the Kanchanpur Subdivision as the local administration already imposed Sec 144 for indefinite period due to ongoing strike of Joint Movement Committee. One person was killed and at least 23 others were injured when police opened fire at the picketers, who blocked the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Panisagar in North Tripura district Saturday in protest against the resettlement of Bru migrants from neighbouring Mizoram, police said. The state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the police firing at the NH-8. The government has also announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased. Probe of the incident would be conducted by district magistrate of North Tripura, Nagesh Kumar, and he would submit report “within one month”.
