Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has raised questions over not inviting President Draupadi Murmu in the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House.
He tweeted and said- It seems that the Modi government makes a president from the Dalit and tribal community only for electoral gains.
He further said that President Draupadi Murmu has not been invited to the inauguration of the new Parliament House to be held on May 28. She is the first citizen of the country. If she is to inaugurate the new Parliament House, it would show the government’s commitment to democratic values and constitutional decorum.
Kharge said that even the then President Ramnath Kovind was not invited while laying the foundation of the new Parliament. The President is the highest constitutional post in the country. He/She alone represents the government, the opposition and every citizen. But, the Modi government has continuously insulted decorum. In the BJP-RSS government, the post of President has remained ostentatious.
Aam Aadmi Party also objected to the inauguration of the Parliament House by the PM.
The AAP on Monday said calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of President Draupadi Murmu for the inauguration of the new Parliament building is an insult to the country’s tribal and backward communities.
On the other hand, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that BJP is a party of anti-tribal, anti-Dalit and anti-backward mentality.
On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi had also demanded that the inauguration of the new Parliament House should be done by President Draupadi Murmu.
He tweeted that the new building of Parliament should be inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu, not PM Modi.
The Congress also raised questions on the date of inauguration of the new building. Congress said- May 28 is the birth anniversary of Hindutva thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Inaugurating the new Parliament House on this day is an insult to the nation builders
