Kiren Rijiju Removed From Union Law Ministry
The government has changed the portfolio of Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju has now been given the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Arjun Ram Meghwal will now be the law minister in place of Rijiju. In a notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, it has been said that Meghwal has been given independent charge. Meghwal also holds the charge of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Apart from Rijiju, Minister of State for Law ministry of SP Singh Baghel has also been changed. He has now been made the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.
Rijiju was appointed Law Minister in July 2021, replacing Ravi Shankar Prasad. In 2019, he was given the responsibility of the Sports Ministry.
Rijiju has been in news for his comments on judges. He had also said about the collegium that no one in the country can warn anyone. A statement was also given on retired judges – some retired judges have become a part of the Anti India group.
With the change of ministry, Kiren Rijiju made a tweet. He wrote- Got the honor of serving as Law Minister under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi. I thank CJI DY Chandrachud, all the judges of the Supreme Court and all the judges of the High Court, Lower Judiciary and all the legal officers for making justice easy for the public. Now as a humble worker of BJP, I am eager to fulfill the vision of PM Modi by working with the same enthusiasm in the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Congress’s Alka Lamba said, “Rijiju’s comments on judges’ appointments and courts had created problems for the Modi government. To save its image, the government sacrificed its own Well done by sacrificing the law minister.”
Congress MP from Madurai Manickam Tagore said – He was a very good sports minister, but failed as law minister.
Kiren Rijiju had said at the India Today Conclave on March 18, “Some retired judges have almost become a part of the anti-India group. These people try to make the Indian judiciary opposition Play the role of Those who do such things against the country will have to pay the price.
“The anti-India forces inside and outside the country use the same language that democracy is in danger. Human rights do not exist in India. Rahul Gandhi also uses the same language that the Anti India group says. This tarnishes the image of India.” He told.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has shared the statement of a former Delhi High Court judge in the Government vs Supreme Court collegium dispute. Judge RS Sodhi had said in an interview to a YouTube channel that the Supreme Court has hijacked the Constitution. If there is an elected representation of the public in the Supreme Court, then only the public gets justice.
The Supreme Court had expressed displeasure at the beginning of this year itself over the delay in the appointment of judges. Told the Center not to force us to take such a stand which would cause trouble.
After this, Rijiju had said during a meeting in Prayagraj – I saw that it is being said in the media reports that the Supreme Court has given a warning (on the collegium). The people here are the owners of this country, we are just servants. Our guide is the Constitution. The country will run according to the constitution. No one can warn anyone”.
In March, more than 90 retired officers had written an open letter opposing the statements of Law Minister Kiran Rijiju.
These bureaucrats had said that on many occasions the Law Minister made such statements on the collegium system of appointment of judges and judicial independence, which seem to be an attack on the Supreme Court.
Kiren’s statements were also opposed by more than 350 lawyers practicing in the Supreme Court and High Court. He had said that such statements do not suit the law minister.
Arjunram Meghwal, left the job of IAS In 2009. Arjun was elected as the Member of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Bikaner.
Meghwal took oath as a Member of Parliament on 2 June 2009. In 2014, he was re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Meghwal was elected as a Member of Parliament for the third consecutive time from Bikaner. The government has given him a car, but he prefers to go to Parliament by bicycle.
