An army vehicle met with a major accident on Friday in Sikkim.
In this accident, 16 soldiers including 3 JCOs of the army have been martyred.
The incident took place at Jema in North Sikkim.
The accident vehicle was part of a convoy of three vehicles.
The convoy had moved from Chatten towards Thangu in the morning. The vehicle skidded down a steep slope at a sharp turn on its way to Jemaa.
Three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 jawans succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
According to the army, the truck fell into a deep gorge while taking a sharp turn.
” 16 brave soldiers of the Indian Army lost their lives when an Army truck met with an accident on December 23 at Gema in North Sikkim,” the Army said .
Rescue operations were launched immediately after the accident and four injured soldiers are being airlifted.
