Mamata Banerjee has questioned the Election Commission’s decision to conduct the West Bengal Assembly Election in eight phases. The West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief asked the EC that if the Assam polls can be conducted in three phases and Tamil Nadu in one then why Bengal polls were being bifurcated into eight phases. Mamata Banerjee also objected to the Election Commission’s decision to hold polls in the same districts in different phases. “They have divided districts in part 1 part 2. Since we are powerful in South 24 Pargana it is being done in three phases. They are teaching us BA part 1, part 2….,” Mamata Banerjee said. The TMC chief alleged that the BJP was trying to divide the people on religion. “They are diving people on lines of Hindu-Muslim. The game is on. We play and win. They are dividing the entire country. But let me tell you, I know Bengal very well,” she said. During her presser, Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP was misusing its authority as the ruling party at the Centre to influence state polls. “We know all their games. The BJP has the agency power, GoI power. But the Centre cannot misuse its power for one state election. They will have to face the music,” she said. Urging the Election Commission to stop the misuse of money in Bengal polls, Mamata Banerjee claimed that the BJP had sent money to districts to influence the voters. She also accused Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misusing their position during the poll campaign. “If the BJP wants to destroy Bengal, let me say this… bring all their leaders they can…But people of Bengal will respond,” Mamata Banerjee said. The polling in Bengal will be held from March 27 to April 29. The result will be out on May 2.
