Mamata Banerjee To Skip The Dinner Hosted By Opposition On July 17

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not attend the dinner hosted by the opposition on July 17. After the recent microsurgery of the knee, the doctors have advised him to rest. 

However, she along with Abhishek Banerjee will attend the meeting of opposition parties to be held on July 18. Abhishek will attend the dinner on behalf of TMC.


CM Banerjee underwent microsurgery on her left knee at Government SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday. 

The TMC chief suffered a ligament injury in his left knee during the emergency landing of his helicopter at the Sevoke airbase in north Bengal on June 27.

A TMC source said, “Though his doctors have given him permission to fly and attend the opposition summit, he has been advised rest. So she will not attend the dinner, but will attend the meeting on July 18”.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has hosted a dinner for opposition parties in Bengaluru on July 17.

Sources said TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien will accompany the West Bengal chief minister at the meeting and are likely to attend the dinner as her representatives.

As per doctor’s advice, Banerjee will return to Kolkata soon after the summit. This will be the first time that the top leadership of TMC, Congress and Left parties will meet after the violence-hit panchayat elections in West Bengal.


Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to attend the second meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru on July 18 (Monday). 

Twenty-four opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have been invited for the meeting.

 The first meeting of the opposition was held in Patna in which around 15 parties participated and it was hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
