Manik Sarkar, Badal Chowdhry Attackd In Shantirbazar

The leader of the opposition and CPI (M) politburo member Manik Sarkar, incumbent deputy leader of the opposition and former minister Badal Chowdhury and sitting MLA Sudhan Das were allegedly attacked today by unruly BJP workers and supporters at Santir Bazar. They had gone to meet a party man Narendra Das who had been attacked and injured by BJP miscreants in his house. Even though slogan-shouting against the senior CPI (M) trio had begun when they were inside the residence of Narendra Das, the attack started within moments of their emergence from the house. There was heavy brick-batting, hurling of abuses, attempts and pushing and jostling them. The deputy leader of the opposition Badal Chowdhury sustained minor injuries on his head and was seen washing his head in a video clip. Finally police personnel from Santir Bazar police station reached the spot and rescued the three leaders from more dangerous attacks by the BJP miscreants. Then they left for Agartala with the BJP miscreant shouting demands like refund of money looted by chit funds, justice for other things and others.
Sources from Santir Bazar said that it was on May 2 that the local CPI(M) unit had opened their long-closed party office and started sitting there . But on the very next day there was an organized attack on the reopened party office and a veteran party worker Narendra Das was injured and hospitalized. He had recovered and returned home and in order to see him the top three CPI (M) leaders,Manik Sarkar, Badal Chowdhury and Sudhan Das had gone to Narendra Das’s house before being attacked by a mob of unruly BJP miscreants.
