‘Met, Agri Department Failed’ : AIKS Tripura Demands Compensation For ‘Midhili’ Affected Farmers

Cyclone Midhili and rain have caused huge damage to the farmers of Tripura. The All India Krishak Sabha Tripura State Committee has demanded immediate financial assistance, free seeds and fertilizers after assessment of the amount of loss to the farmers.

Speaking on this Pabitra Kar, member of AIKS Tripura State Committee said that:

Due to irresponsible bulletins of meteorological department and failure of state agriculture department, farmers face huge losses in Midhili cyclone and rains

It is time to harvest vegetables from the field. Harvesting of paddy started. In this situation, the farmers of the state have faced massive crop losses due to untimely rain. As a result of excessive rains, the vegetables are completely destroyed, and there is a possibility of running out of vegetables in various markets of the state.

This was the year 2021 and 2022. Farmers suffered due to similar untimely rains during the period as well. The state government did not provide any assistance to the farmers despite repeated requests from the Krishak Sabha.

Agriculture Department had failed to utilize the experience of last year. The farmers have been affected in all the districts of the state as well as the power system has been disrupted across the state. Due to lack of electricity, there is widespread water crisis in many places.

Our demand is that the government mist provide financial assistance to the farmers.
