Dharmanagar Special Court Judge Anshuman Debbarma convicted the two accused of raping and murdering the minor and announced the death sentence.
The convicted accused are Saurabh Chandranath and Diwakar Das. The incident took place on June 19, 2019 in Padmapur area of Dharmanagar.
The family of the minor is happy with the court verdict. It is known that on June 19, 2019, a minor girl went missing from Padmapur area of Dharmanagar under North Tripura District.
After a lot of searching, the family did not find the minor and filed a missing diary at Dharmanagar police station that night.
On June 20, the body of the minor was recovered from Kargil Tila area of Haplong tea garden. The police of Dharmanagar Mahila Police Station went to the spot and informed the family members of the missing minor.
Family members of the missing minor went to the spot and identified the body. Then the police registered a case of murder and started investigating the incident.
The police detained two persons named Saurabh Chandranath and Dibakar Das and interrogated them. They admitted to the incident during police interrogation.
The police arrested them and handed them over to the court. After interrogating the arrested, the clothes of the dead minor were recovered and sent to the lab for forensic examination. The lab report revealed that the accused had raped the minor before killing her.
The arrested accused confessed in the court before the judge how they kidnapped the minor, where they raped her and how they killed her.
Meanwhile, the police completed the investigation of the incident and submitted the charge sheet to the court. Then the trial process starts in the court.
The lawyer for the government said that the testimony of 41 witnesses was taken during the trial process in the court.
On September 30, the Dharmanagar Special Court Judge convicted the two accused under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, Convicted under IPC Section 376D and IPC Section 302.
On Tuesday, the judge announced the sentence of the two accused. The judge of the Dharmanagar special court ordered the accused to be sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, life imprisonment for six months under Section 376D of IPC and a fine of Rs 5,000 and the maximum sentence of death for the accused under Section 302 of IPC.
The court ruling sets a precedent. Besides, the family of the minor girl who lost her daughter is happy with the court’s verdict. Because they won’t get their daughter back, but the murderers of their daughter have been punished exemplary.
