More Vacancies But Less Recruitment: Report

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday handed over job appointment letters to 71,000 youth in government departments.

The Prime Minister said that in the last 9 years, the Government of India has also given priority to making the government recruitment process faster, more transparent and fair.

However, the trickle-down nature of this recruitment is evident from the number of vacant posts in various departments of the central government.

Union Minister of State for Personnel Affairs Jitendra Singh told in February this year that till March 31, 2021, there were a total of nine lakh 79 thousand 327 vacant posts in the central government and state-owned enterprises under the central government. Among them, there are vacancies in 78 ministries of the central government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Minister of State for Personnel, Pensions and Public Grievances. State Minister Jitendra looked after the work of that office on his behalf.

That figure is two years old. Then the minister was asked to know in parliament how many people have been appointed.

In response, the minister told that recruitment is a continuous process. The government is regularly organizing job fairs. Hence it is not possible to give the latest statistics.

According to the central government employees organizations (Workers organizations), the number of vacant posts has increased by several lakhs in these two years.

But In comparison, the recruitments are meagre, like a few drops of water in the desert.

According to them, regular and seasoned posts in the government are not recruited in the Rozgar Mela or job fair.

Various recruitment commissions of the central government conduct competitive examinations for all those posts.

But the commission exam is not conducted every year anymore. Many posts have been abolished. Vacant posts are also reduced.

Still, the number of vacant posts was close to ten lakh two-and-a-half years ago.

According to the official report Indian Railways has the highest number of vacancies. The number of vacant posts in the Ministry of Railways is two lakh 93 thousand.

Home Ministry is second in the list of vacancies. One lakh 43 thousand posts are vacant in that ministry.

In third place there is the Ministry of Posts. There are more than 90,000 vacancies in offices connected with the postal department, including post offices.

There are about 80,000 vacancies in the offices under the Ministry of Finance.

According to the employee organizations, one lakh posts are filled in a year at most. More workers are retiring than ever before.
