Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 69th plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Shillong beginning on January 23 here. During the two-day plenary, there will be presentations from the Union Ministry of DoNER, NEC, State governments and Central ministries on various development initiatives that have been undertaken, and future plans for the region. Discussions will be held on the progress of ongoing projects, outlays by Central ministries in the region and plans for the period beyond March 2021 during the term of the 15th Finance Commission. Governor Ramesh Bais and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb are scheduled to attend the NEC plenary session with some specific wish-list for the state. The Dy Chief Minister Jishun Dev Varma who had joined a pre-budget meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam has pledged for increase in the outlay for the DoNER and NEC to speed up development activities setting the state’s tune.
