The Gujarat High Court on Friday set aside an order directing Gujarat University to release details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree, saying the information is not required.
The Gujarat High Court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for seeking information.
Arvind Kejriwal will have to deposit this amount with the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority.
The Central Information Commission had directed Gujarat University in the year 2016 to provide information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree.
Reacting to this news, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said on the micro-blogging website Twitter, “Does the country not even have the right to know how much their PM has studied? He vehemently opposed showing degrees in court. Why? ? And those who demand to see their degrees will be fined? What is happening?”
