Eight hundred and ninety-four Anganwadi workers and assistants of Chamanu and Manu ICDS projects under Longtaraivally sub-division, North Tripura District have protested over non-payment of their salaries for the month of April.
For the past few months, the project workers and assistants of Chamanu, Manu, Damchhara, Kanchanpur, Gandachhara and Jampui areas have been protesting for their last month’s salary, but for a mysterious reason, the State Social Welfare and Social Education Department is playing a silent role.
According to the report the salaries and allowances of ICDS workers-assistants are paid jointly by the Center and the state governments.
It is known that the fund of the central government is available, but due to the lack of fund from the Tripura state government, salaries and allowances cannot be paid.
In this situation, Anganwadi workers-helpers are not willing to take half salary. All in the state
Though the officers and staff of all the departments have been paid for April but the salary of ICDS staff-helpers has not been paid till today.
That’s why workers Manu and Chamanu, locked the ICDS office demanding salary.
On Friday ICDS workers-helpers of Chamanu project marched in different areas of Chamanu. Later they staged a dharna at the ICDS office and locked it.
Project CDPO and Chamanu Police Station Assistant Officer-in-Charge Jai Thappa rushed to the spot after receiving information and opened the lock requesting the protesting workers-helpers to be patient till Monday.
