Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that his country is not trying to provoke India.
According to him, if Canada has said that Indian agents were involved in the killing of the Sikh Khalistani terrorist, it only means that Canada wants India to deal with this matter properly.
Canadian PM said while talking to journalists, ‘The Indian government needs to take this matter very seriously. We are very serious about this, but our intention is not to increase tension or provoke anyone regarding this”.
Trudeau had alleged on September 18 that the Indian government was involved in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. Nijjar was shot outside a gurudwara on June 18 in the city of Surrey in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
However, India has rejected these allegations, calling them absurd and malicious. In this regard, Indian Foreign Ministry said, ‘We have heard the the statement of the Prime Minister of Canada and have also rejected it. At the same time, we also reject the statement of the Foreign Minister of Canada. The allegation that the Indian government is involved in any kind of violence in Canada is absurd and malicious. The Prime Minister of Canada had also made similar allegations against the Prime Minister of India and it was completely rejected”
Following these allegations, Canada also expelled a senior Indian diplomat. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly had told the media that her government has expelled a senior Indian diplomat in the case of the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
In retaliation, India has also expelled a Canadian diplomat. In a video released in this connection, Canada’s High Commissioner is shown angrily walking out of the Foreign Ministry office.
