Odisha Health Minister Naba Das died during treatment. Firing was done on him on Sunday afternoon. During this, he was shot in the chest. Giving information, the Apollo Hospital official said that Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das, who was injured in the bullet, has died.
Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das was shot by an assistant sub-inspector of police in Jharsuguda district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Brajrajnagar town of the district around 1 pm when Das was on his way to attend a meeting.
Brajrajnagar SDPO Gupteshwar Bhoi told reporters, “Assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Gopal Das fired at the minister. The minister has been injured in the incident and has been taken to the hospital.”
Bhoi told that the local people caught the accused ASI and handed him over to the police.
He said that an inquiry has been initiated to find out why the ASI fired at the minister.
In a video, minister Das is seen unconscious and bleeding from his chest. In the video, the local people are seen trying to pick up the minister and make him sit on the front seat of the car.
According to the SDPO, the minister was first taken to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, but later arranged to airlift him to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for “better treatment”.
After the attack on Das, there was an atmosphere of tension in the city. Supporters of the minister raised questions on his ‘security lapse’.
Some supporters alleged that there was a conspiracy to target Das.
The SDPO said that the accused ASI has been arrested and his interrogation is on. He said that more information would come to the fore only after a thorough investigation of the incident.
Eyewitnesses claim that he was shot as soon as he got out of his vehicle. The motive behind the attack is still not clear.
Naba Das arrived as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Public Grievance Office. When he arrived, a huge crowd gathered there to welcome him.
During this, suddenly the sound of firing was heard. An eyewitness told that he saw a policeman running away after firing from close range.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “I am shocked by this incident. I strongly condemn it and pray for his speedy recovery. Crime Branch has been directed to investigate the matter. Crime Branch senior Officials have been asked to go to the spot.”
