Many including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Pawan Kheda, AAP MP Raghav Chadha, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, politicians and MPs have claimed that their iPhones are hacked.
These leaders have claimed that the Apple company itself (Apple iPhone) has shared with them the information about the phone hacking attempt by sending a message.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha said in a long post that he ‘has received a notification from Apple, warning about a possible government-sponsored spyware attack on his phone.
Chadha said the “espionage” is taking place just months before the general elections. This should be placed within the broader attacks on the opposition.
However, in the statement issued by Apple it has been said that we cannot talk about any particular state sponsored hacker. It is possible that some of Apple’s information may be a false warning.
Three people in the office of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi have also received similar messages. At the same time, government sources have said that officials were aware of these messages.
Raghav Chaddha gave information on X also use it to question the dictatorial practices of the central government. It is also a device I use to communicate with my party colleagues, workers and volunteers for the elections. I also use it as my media presence. It’s a device that I use to discuss legal strategies with the lawyers in my many ongoing cases. So, not only my smartphone but The democratic interests of our country are under attack.
This notification is reminiscent of the Pegasus spyware scam, which also targeted many voices critical of the BJP. I am not the only opposition leader who has been attacked in this attack.
“Many voices of the opposition have been targeted.”
The AAP MP wrote, “These attacks are not on me as an individual or an opposition party, but on the common people of India. Since this is not just about my phone or my data. Every Indian should be concerned.” There is a need. Today this is happening to me. Tomorrow you too can be in my place.”
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has also received Iphone security threat alert. She claimed that along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chadha, CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Congress’s Pawan Kheda were also warned about the hacking attempts.
At the same time, Shiv Sena UBT spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi shared the message received on her phone on social media.
Shortly after Mahua’s tweet, Shashi Tharoor also shared some screenshots and wrote that I have received these screenshots from an Apple ID, which I have verified. These emails are correct. I am happy that some idle government employees are busy spying on taxpayers like me. They have nothing else to do.
According to Apple, these security threat alerts are triggered when its systems detect “activity consistent with a state-sponsored attack. The notifications are likely triggered by an “algorithm malfunction” and that a detailed statement about the error would be released soon.
