The Central Government has announced to extend the deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN.
Now taxpayers will be able to link PAN with Aadhaar by 30 June 2023.
Soon the government will issue a notification regarding this.
In a press release issued by the Finance Ministry, it has been said that the deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN has been extended from March 31, 2023 to June 30, 2023, to give relief to taxpayers.
After this taxpayers can link Aadhaar with PAN without any hassle.
Under the Income Tax Act, 1961, till July 1, 2017, any person who has been allotted PAN and is entitled to get an Aadhaar number, was required to share the Aadhaar number with the tax authority by March 31, 2023, by paying the prescribed fee.
If this was not done, action would have been taken against the taxpayers from April 1, 2023 and more fine would have to be paid.
But now the deadline has been extended to 30 June 2023. Even till this new deadline, if a PAN card holder does not link Aadhaar, then the PAN card will become non-operative and he will have to bear the brunt.
Under this action, refund will not be given to taxpayers having such PAN. No interest will be paid on the refund for the period the PAN remains inoperative. More TDS and TCS will be charged from such taxpayers.
After linking Aadhaar with PAN and payment of Rs 1,000, the PAN will be made operative again in 30 days.
Those people who have been exempted from PAN-Aadhaar linking, this action will not be taken and they will not have to face the consequences.
Those people come in this category who live in certain states, are non-residents under the Act. Also, those people who are not Indian citizens and have been over 80 years of age till last year.
The Finance Ministry said that till now Aadhaar has been linked with 51 crore PANs.
