PIL Demanding SIT Probe In ‘Tripura Violence’: Supreme Court To Hear On January 31

Tripura Government raises questions about West Bengal, with affidavit in the case demanding, formation of Special Investigation Team SIT on ‘communal violence in Tripura’ (Tripura News). The apex court on Monday granted counter-affidavits to the plaintiffs in the case. The case will be heard on January 31.

During the hearing, there was a controversy over the affidavit submitted to the apex court by the Tripura government. The affidavit raises the question, where was the so-called public interest during the post-election violence in West Bengal a few months ago?

Prosecutor Prashant Bhushan has accused the state government of making such remarks illegal and immoral. Lawyer Ehtasham Hasmi filed a case in the Supreme Court in October last year alleging violence and targeting of the minority community in Tripura.

He filed a lawsuit seeking an independent, impartial inquiry into the violence in Tripura. A bench of Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachur and Justice AS Bopanna sent the notice on November 29 regarding the petition.
