Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, who is facing allegations of being insensitive towards the wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, met them at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday and assured them of support.
Former sprinter Usha had earlier strongly criticized the wrestlers for starting the protest again instead of approaching the IOA for their issues.
She had said that the wrestlers should have shown some discipline. She and the IOA faced criticism after this comment.
Usha left without talking to the media but wrestler Bajrang Punia said that She has assured help. Bajrang told the media, ‘PT Usha met us and assured her support. He said that she is an athlete first and then an administrator. She assured that she will help us to get justice”
Referring to her remarks on lack of discipline among wrestlers, he said, “PT Usha said that her words were misinterpreted.”
Bajrang again reiterated that if they does not get justice, the protest will continue.
“We made it clear to her that this protest will continue till things get rectified and we get justice. However, we are hopeful of getting justice. The things she has said, if there is any initiative in that direction, then definitely this issue will be resolved. She said that she will try to solve all our problems”.
PT Usha also faced protests at Jantar Mantar. In a viral media, a woman was heard saying to PT Usha that you have insulted women.
Delhi Police has registered two cases against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on allegations of sexual harassment.
