Rahul Gandhi Disqualified From Lok Sabha. Notification Issued

The Parliament membership of Rahul Gandhi has been cancelled. On Friday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat gave this information while issuing a notification.

On Thursday (March 23), a Surat court convicted him in a criminal defamation case and sentenced him to two years in prison and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000.

However, during the hearing of the case, the court granted him bail.

Rahul Gandhi was a Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad in Kerala. He was first elected from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and was a Member of Parliament there till 2019.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he lost his traditional seat of Amethi to Union Minister Smriti Irani, but retained his parliament membership by winning the election from Wayanad.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, BJP tried all ways to disqualify him. They don’t want whatever truth he is telling about BJP, but we will keep speaking the truth. We will continue to demand JPC, if needed we will go to jail to save democracy.
