Congress leader Ajay Rai claimed on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, as the Nehru-Gandhi family has an old family relationship with Amethi.
Talking to reporters at the party office here, he said, ‘The Gandhi-Nehru family has old family ties with Amethi, no one can weaken it. Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi in 2024.
Rai, the provincial head of the party in Uttar Pradesh, said that he appeals to the people of Amethi to send Rahul Gandhi to Delhi by re-electing him as an MP with a thumping majority.
So far no statement has come from the Congress party on the former Congress President contesting the next parliamentary election from Amethi.
Rahul Gandhi was defeated by BJP’s Smriti Irani in the 2019 elections.
Prior to that, he had represented the Amethi parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms. Sanjay Gandhi before him, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi also won from Amethi.
Rai contested the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi in 2014 as well as in 2019.
Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, which is going on for the last 97 days, Rai said that it is currently passing through Rajasthan, after which it will enter Uttar Pradesh on January 3 or 4 next year.
Prior to that, the Uttar Pradesh unit of the Congress Party is taking out regional Bharat Jodo Yatras at various places.
Apart from the state president, the Congress has also appointed six provincial heads in Uttar Pradesh. Rai told that from last December 11, Bharat Jodo regional tour was started from Prayagraj under his leadership, which reached Amethi on December 14 via Kaushambi Pratapgarh.
He said that this yatra will be 25 kilometers long in Amethi district, in which this yatra is being welcomed at every place. Before starting the journey in Amethi, Rai addressed a press conference at the party office (Gauriganj). After this the journey started.
In this visit, Congress Party’s District President Pradeep Singhal as well as former MLC of Congress Party from Amethi district Deepak Singh and former in-charge Mata Prasad Vaish, Ashish Shukla, Akarsh Shukla, District President of Youth Congress Shubham Singh, District President of Kisan Congress All the leaders and workers of the party, including Om Prakash Dubey, were seen in large numbers.
This yatra is being welcomed by the people at various places. This yatra will reach Sultanpur after Amethi district. From there it will pass through Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Sonbhadra and finally end in Varanasi on 22nd December.
