Sadbhavna Diwas has been celebrated on Sunday 20 August in India. It is also called Sadbhav Diwas and is celebrated on the birth anniversary of the 6th Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. It is a reminder of Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts for harmony and peace.
Tripura Congress also celebrated the day. Party organized a blood donation camp on this day. MLA Gopal Ch Roy, former MLA Asish Saha, NSUI Tripura President Samrat Roy were present in the camp.
Speaking on this occasion Asish Saha said:
“Indian National Congress workers whether at the grassroots level or at the national level, celebrate Sadbhavana Divas with enthusiasm”.
“The party proudly talks about the peace efforts made by Gandhi during his tenure as Prime Minister. Rajiv not only tried to restore communal harmony on Indian soil but also tried to restore peace and order in other countries. His vision was to make India a world leader in bringing order and harmony”
Sadbhavna Diwas is actually more about remembering Rajiv Gandhi’s vision and efforts to bring about harmony in the society than celebrating his birthday.
During his tenure as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989, the government led by Rajiv Gandhi adopted an assertive policy to establish peace and harmony in the country and the world.
Sadbhavna is a Hindi word meaning harmony and peace. Sadbhavna Diwas is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Rajiv Gandhi as well as his government’s efforts to restore peace.
As Prime Minister of India, Rajiv successfully intervened to suppress military coups in the Maldives, Seychelles, and also suppressed the terrorist organization LTTE (Liberation of Tamil Tigers of Eelam) in neighboring Sri Lanka.
He also lost his life during an election campaign in India in 1991, when an LTTE suicide bomber blew himself up while touching his feet.
He also advocated an action plan to make the world free of nuclear weapons during the session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated with the main objective of remembering Rajiv’s efforts to restore peace.
