Repeated Rape, Sexual Exploitation: ‘Godman’ Asaram Bapu Gets Life Imprisonment 

In the rape case, the sessions court of Gandhinagar has sentenced ‘Godman’ Asaram Bapu to life imprisonment. 

Public Prosecutor R.C. Kodekar told that Asaram has been sentenced to life imprisonment under 374, 377. The victim has also been asked to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000. 

In this case, the court had completed the hearing on Monday and reserved the verdict. In the court, the prosecution in its arguments had demanded life imprisonment to the accused Asaram Bapu.

 Also said that the accused is a habitual criminal and a heavy fine should also be imposed on him. 

Notably Asaram Bapu is currently in Jodhpur jail, where he is serving life sentence for raping a minor girl. 

Gandhinagar sessions court convicted Asaram Bapu in 2013 for raping a woman. Asaram Bapu raped the female disciple several times between 2001 and 2006 during her stay at the ashram in Motera, Ahmedabad. 

Kodekar said that the crime committed by Asaram has a provision of life imprisonment or 10 years of imprisonment, but we had demanded that Asaram is serving jail sentence in another similar case and Habitual criminal.

 In such a situation, the prosecutor demanded strict punishment for Asaram and also imposed a heavy fine. 

Gandhinagar’s sessions court had completed the hearing against Asaram on Monday and found guilty under sections 376, 377, 342, 354, 357 and 506 of IPC.

 The court acquitted six other accused, including Asaram’s wife Lakshmiben, his daughter and four other disciples, in the woman’s rape case.
