10 students were killed and 40 others were injured when Thambalanu Higher Secondary School bus overturned in Noney district of Manipur on Wednesday.
The accident took place on Old Cachar Road near Longsai area of the hill district, about 55 km from state capital Imphal.
The students of the school went on an annual school study tour to Khaupum in Noney district in two buses.
Police said that the driver of the bus in which the girl students were traveling lost control, due to which the bus overturned.
As soon as the police got the information about the accident, they immediately started making arrangements for help on the spot.
Officials said that the injured girl students are being taken to the capital Imphal for treatment.
Sharing a video of the bus accident on Twitter, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the accident of a bus carrying school children on Old Cachar Road today. SDRF, medical team and local MLA reached the spot to coordinate the rescue operation. I pray for the safety of everyone in the bus.
CM Biren Singh has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased students.
